Hitachi Energy Announce Expansion of Site in Massy, France

Hitachi Energy has announced that it is investing in its French site in Massy, in the Essonne region, in order to expand its facilities and continue its development in terms of recruitment (this plan plans to double the site's workforce by 2027). The group intends to meet the growing demand for clean energy solutions, in particular by relying on its HVDC technologies and power electronics, to integrate renewable energies while strengthening the grid.
"At a time when France and Europe are accelerating the energy transition to achieve their Net-Zero goals by 2030, we are proud to carry out this expansion to support the development of future electricity grids," said Andreas Berthou, HVDC segment manager at Hitachi Energy's Grid Integration entity. This is part of the next chapter to support HVDC technology and continue our operational excellence that will help us meet the growing needs of markets and lay the foundation for a sustainable energy future for all."
Hitachi Energy's expansion in France is presented as essential for the Japanese group to collaborate with its customers, partners but also universities, and to support the execution and delivery of its current portfolio of projects in France. Over the past five years, the local organization has been a significant player in the HVDC market, contributing to the development of projects in France.
Hitachi Energy has several HVDC reference projects in France, including IFA2, Centre Manche 1 & 2 and Biscay Gulf.s of Corsica and Sardinia.
"The French government is planning significant investments in clean energy projects to increase installed renewable capacity tenfold by 2050 to 100 GW and to adapt connections to its energy policy objectives. Key projects like IFA2 and Centre Manche 1 & 2 are laying the groundwork for a robust power infrastructure that will support the energy transition of France and Europe and contribute to a carbon-neutral future," Hitachi Energy said in a statement.
Hitachi Energy's French expansion, combined with global investments in plant capacity expansion, responds to the Japanese group's holistic approach to the design, planning and operation of current and future power grids with power electronics solutions, such as high-voltage direct current, static compensators, static frequency converters, medium-voltage direct current, battery storage solutions and semiconductor technologies.
In 2023, Hitachi Energy's French headquarters took possession of a new space in Massy and intensified its activities to better serve its customers in France, including the opening of a service center, inaugurated in November 2024 in Cergy (Val-d'Oise). The French entity has carried out several projects such as the first tram-bus reception in Clermont-Ferrand, where Hitachi Energy is supplying an ultra-fast charging system, the I&C system as part of the Hyd'Occ project (Port-la-Nouvelle), and the ongoing renovation of a 225,000 V substation in the Paris suburbs to ensure the energy supply of 37,000 homes and 120 businesses.
