Greenlink
Greenlink
Greenlink is a subsea and underground electricity interconnector linking the power markets of Ireland and Great Britain, featuring a 190 km long, 500 MW high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine power cable between County Wexford in Ireland and Pembrokeshire in Wales. The project enhances electricity supply security, supports low carbon energy integration, and has the capacity to power approximately 380,000 homes, with associated converter stations at both ends of the cable.
Specifically in HVDC activities, Greenlink operates as a critical HVDC infrastructure asset, utilizing a 320 kV DC voltage system to transmit power efficiently under the sea. The interconnector facilitates bi-directional power flow and plays a significant role in balancing grid services between Ireland and Great Britain, thereby supporting the growth and integration of renewable energy sources across the connected markets.

IFA 1 & 2
IFA 1 & 2
IFA 1 and IFA 2 are subsea electrical interconnectors linking the United Kingdom and France, facilitating electricity exchange across the English Channel. IFA 2, commissioned in 2020, is a 204 km, 1 GW high-voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnector capable of exporting or importing enough power to supply approximately one million homes, playing a key role in delivering clean and secure electricity between the two countries.
Specifically in HVDC activities, IFA 2 represents National Grid's second HVDC link to France, providing a critical infrastructure for transferring zero-carbon energy, reducing carbon emissions significantly, and supporting the transition to a cleaner energy system in line with climate goals.
